"Back to the Garden" (In-Progress)
I really liked the idea of constructing this piece from dead and dried botanicals. The material held its color longer than I expected and I was drawn to how delicate and yet strong each leaf became over time. I cut a lace-like pattern into the largest leaf and added small leaves and dried blooms to give a softness (and color!) to the piece. I often associate the transition from Fall to Winter as death, but here, I find death to flourish and be beautiful.
I constructed the headpiece loosely referencing a birdcage veil and shot the images in February 2021.
I'm exploring the duality between light and shadow, soft and strong, hidden and exposed, seen and unseen and how I carry both these traits within myself.
A second veil was constructed in the Summer of 2021.
